Earth Day – Gifts for Change Fundraiser

This event is now full
WTC has been very successful in developing a sustainability ethos within the club.  Although we have achieved many goals to date, sustainability is an ever growing ethos to be challenged – see below.

We recognise that sustainability extends beyond our tennis club and for our next  project we would like to focus on lives in the Developing World where a basic water supply is a human right and is fundamental for a sustainable life. On that basis we are delighted to announce a new plan of action called Gifts of Change Sustainability Project

Due to unprecedented global shifts, many of the world’s largest donors (including the US, the UK and the EU) have in recent times announced significant cuts to their overseas aid programmes. As a result, traditional aid funding could fall by up to 50% in the next 1 – 2 years, impacting the work of Trócaire and many other organisations. So this year, for Earth Day, it is timely that we announce our committment to supporting Trócaire by raising funds for our Gifts of Change Sustainability Project.

The aim is that Gifts of Change will be an annual event supporting the sustainability issue of water justice. This project will raise funds to Fix a Water Well €1000.  Any surplus funds raised will be used for Water Systems €100, Fix a Water Tap €25 and potentially help fund a Solar Well System €1400.

We know the value of water to us during our tennis matches, so let’s take this amazing opportunity to support water justice for social equity in sustainable living.

Members are invited to sign up to our ‘Fast Four Tournament’ on Friday 2nd May at 7.30pm. This event is open to members age 16+
All entry  money will go to Trocaire’s ‘Gifts of Change Sustainability Project’.
