McKernan & Co Handicaps 2025
Booking is now open for the McKernan & Co Senior Club Handicaps Tournament, closing date is 9th March. The tournament will run from Wednesday 26th March through to finals day on Saturday 12th April. To register click HERE.
Please read the notes carefully below before submitting your entry, in particular the information relating to dates, it is different this year to previous years, with all finals being played on one day, Saturday 12th April.
Please note matches will be scheduled for weekend of 29th/30th March and 5th/ 6th April. Entry is now open on the link at the bottom of the email and entries close at 11:59pm on Sunday 9th March
You may enter a maximum of two events.
The format for this competition is ‘Fast Four’ format.
Where numbers allow, players who lose their first round match will be entered into the ‘Plate’ competition. Players are asked to note that, in the event of losing your first round match, you may have another match but you will have the option to ‘Opt out’ during competition entry.
Finals day is Saturday 12th April – no finals will be held earlier than this date to accommodate unavailability.
1. The McKernan & Co. Senior Club Handicap Tournament (2025) is sanctioned by, and held under, the Laws, Rules and Regulations of Tennis Ireland, whose Code of Conduct will be enforced.
2. Entry is restricted to members of Wicklow Tennis Club.
3. No entry will be accepted unless made on ti.tournamentsoftware.com. Fees are payable via online entry. Entries close at 11:59pm on Sunday 9th March 2025.
4. This competition is being run on an elimination basis and the following rules will apply:
a) Handicaps for each player/pairing will be decided by the Tournament Committee. Similar to last year, there will be a plus advantage handicap. An explanation of all handicaps will be circulated to all participants in advance.
b) This year there will be one draw per event and there will be a plate draw for players who do not progress beyond the first round. Each plate draw will be dependent on the number of entries received. For smaller draws the Tournament Committee may decide that a plate draw is not practical.
c) Matches will be the best of 3 Fast Four sets, each set to be played as follows:
i. First player/s to win 4 games wins the set
ii. Next game wins at 3-3 (no tiebreak)
iii. Standard Deuce in all games
d) Matches will be played on week-nights, and at weekends to reduce the overall length of the competition.
5. All matches will be played between Wednesday 26th March and Saturday 12th April 2025. Players are expected to be available to play on these dates. Subs cannot be used.
6. The date, time and court number for each match will be determined by the Tournament Committee. The draws will be updated and available on our website www.wicklowtennisclub.
7. Junior players must have reached the age of 14 on or before 31/12/2024.
8. The tournament committee will make the final decision on the most appropriate handicap and placement of an entry depending on the level and standard of that entry.
9. Draws will be available on the main notice board in the clubhouse and on our website www.wicklowtennisclub.
10. All matches will be played in the spirit of fair play and in accordance with the WTC Code of Conduct on Court Etiquette (available at https://wicklowtennisclub.
11. In all matters the decision of the Tournament Referee (Grainne Ring) and the Tournament Committee will be final.
12. By accepting these Conditions of Entry, you confirm that you are feeling fit, well and display no symptoms of Covid-19, on the date/time when you are scheduled to play. If you display symptoms/positive test result you will need to withdraw. Health and Safety guidance in relation to Covid-19 shall be applied.

We hope see a large entry for this very popular and social event. This is open to all players of all standards, you will be given an appropriate handicap as per your standard of tennis.
Entry: €10 for one event, €20 for two events.
