Wicklow Tennis Club is seeking to appoint a Head Coach to manage and develop the club’s coaching programme.
Wicklow Tennis Club is located in the centre of Wicklow Town, it is a vibrant and growing club with six Tiger Turf courts and approx. 800 members (450 adult and 350 junior members). We cater for both social and league players.
Role Description
The development and delivery of a comprehensive coaching programme for adult and junior members.
Key Responsibilities
General
Establish a standard coaching structure to ensure that all club coaches are working to an agreed plan. Supervise, develop and liaise with the other club coaches in line with the club’s coaching policy.
Adult
- Plan and implement a tennis development strategy for adult members.
- Organise group coaching sessions during the year including cardio sessions.
- Put in place coaching sessions for the ladies and men’s league teams prior to all the Dublin Leagues.
- Assist with existing internal tennis tournaments for league and recreational
Junior
- Review and develop the Junior Programme
- Identify and communicate clear guidelines for the Junior Programme.
- Work closely with other coaches to ensure that the Junior Programme is in keeping with objectives of the club at all levels (recreational, intermediate and performance).
- Manage and develop a strategy for performance juniors. This will include providing the development coaching, monitoring the success of the programme and attending tournaments to monitor the participants progress and learning requirements.
- Ensure that all the coaching given is provided on a basis that the juniors at all levels enjoy the sessions as well as developing their tennis skills and love of tennis.
- Manage the transition of the junior members to playing adult leagues.
- Design and implement the Junior Summer Daily Activity Programme and manage internal competitions i.e.box leagues whilst liaising with the Junior Committee.
Reporting Procedures
The Head Coach will report to the club’s Executive Committee via the coaching co-ordinator and is expected to liaise with the club’s coaching committee as appropriate from time to time.
Interested candidates should have the following competencies:
The ideal candidate is someone with a passion for development of tennis and with a proven demonstration of a wide range of competence to help drive tennis at all levels in the club and have:
- Accredited Tennis Coach to a minimum of ITF Level 3 (equivalent to old Tennis Ireland Level 2) qualification (or other relevant/recognised qualification).
- Tennis Ireland Licensed (or equivalent accreditation).
- A proven track record of delivery within a club environment for a successful coaching
- Available to work flexible hours to suit Wicklow Tennis Club’s programmes.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
- A high level of organisational skills and reasonable computer skills.
- Be a strong team player capable of managing all key relationships within the club.

Terms and Conditions
The Head Coach will be paid an annual retainer fee. The annual retainer will cover matters such as setting up, managing and delivering the adult and junior coaching programmes. The Head Coach will be entitled to give private lessons to club members in accordance with the club’s coaching policy.
This is an equal opportunity position and will be on a self-employed contract basis for an initial period of 3 years with a probationary period of 6 months.
